WHat's our story?

Neelsville's story began in 1845 with a handful of faithful people and a calling from God. Joseph Neel donated a plot of land and $50, and God did the rest. Since that time, generations have worshiped, prayed, heard the Gospel, celebrated at weddings, mourned at funerals, and served the community here at Neelsville.

Neelsville has been making a difference in the Germantown community for well over a century. We are a multicultural congregation who knows that God has placed us in this rapidly changing region for a reason. We are gratefully aware that we stand in a long and vibrant tradition of faithful believers who have come before us.

What should I expect

on Sunday morning?

Our worship service is led by our Praise Team.  At our service you will find families and singles, younger and older people, and a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds. We work hard to be a friendly, welcoming church family.

We follow a liturgical order in our service: opening with praise; then continuing with confession of sin; stating what we believe (creeds); hearing the word of God read, with its truth and teachings carefully explained in the pastor’s sermon; then prayers of intercession and thanksgiving; and closing with a benediction exhorting us to go live out our faith in the world. Services typically last from 60 to 75 minutes.

We celebrate Communion, the Lord’s Supper, on the first and third Sundays of each month. Baptisms of new believers or children of members are celebrated during worship services and times are arranged with the pastor.

Sunday School is held throughout the school year.  We have classes for all ages - children (age 3 and older), students (middle & high school), and adults.

What is your music like?

Worship music is “blended” using the best traditional hymns as well as new and contemporary expressions of who God is and how he works in our lives. We joyfully combine traditional hymns with organ, and modern hymns and worship songs with drums, guitar, bass and piano or keyboard.

We chose “blending” our styles for biblical and theological reasons, relating to the nature of the church: the body of Christ itself is blended including a great variety of God’s children. We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord! A Christ-centered focus causes us to put aside personal musical preferences so that we can be united in our commitment to glorifying God in our worship above all.

What should I wear?

Casual or dressy is equally accepted. Come as you are!

What about my children?

Children are warmly welcomed in worship. We welcome the wiggles and the giggles of children in our worship service as we believe children are a vital part of our church family. Children’s worship bags are available with Bible-based activity pages.

If you prefer, you can sit in the area behind the sanctuary (the Narthex) and still see and hear the service.

Children who are in second grade and younger are welcome to come to the Worship and Play Zone during the sermon for a Bible story and crafts.

How can I get involved?

Our mission is to glorify God by being disciples and making disciples of Jesus Christ. Wherever you are in your faith journey, whatever season of life you find yourself, we have many resources to help you grow in your faith for children & family, students, and adults, including Bible studies and service opportunities.

We would love to have you as part of our church family. If you have questions, please contact us at office@neelsville.org.
