Deacons

Our Deacons are ordained by the church to embody Christ’s love, by demonstrating leadership in serving people in need, both within and beyond the community of faith. The word “deacon” comes from the Greek word “diakonos” and means “one who serves." It is the same word used by Jesus when he spoke of himself: For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45)

Our Benevolence Team This team of deacons provide short-term help and referrals to county services for those in our congregation, as well as residents of the Germantown area (including financial assistance with shut-off and/or eviction notices).

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me . . . Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me. (Matthew 25:35)
