When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born.

Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt.

I am the Lord your God.

Leviticus 19:33-34

Our Mission

Thousands of refugees have been displaced from their homelands around the world, and there are still many coming from Afghanistan. Americans have as many perspectives on this issue as we have citizens, but our points of view do not change the present need or the Biblical call.

Hadi, Husniyeh, and Hasti Arab (that is their last name) fled to Iran from Afghanistan as refugees many years ago. During their time in Iran, Hadi came to faith in Christ, and led his family to the Lord as well. Both Hadi and their daughter were imprisoned for their faith. Their daughter was martyred, and Hadi was brutally beaten. Hasti was three years old when her mother was killed. As a result, Hadi and Husniyeh took their granddaughter Hasti and fled from Iran to Turkey where they applied to the UN for asylum. They finally came to the US in November, and they need our support to assimilate into our country.

Neelsville Presbyterian Church, Shady Grove Presbyterian Church, Covenant Life Church and Christ Presbyterian Church are working together to help this refugee family settle in our area, and we are seeking support from individuals, businesses, and churches in the community. We hope you will consider being a part of this outreach to a displaced family.

How You Can Help

  • Pray - Please pray for the Arab family that has joined us, and for those that will be working with them to assimilate into our community. This is our most fervent request.
  • Donate - Our plan is to work with the Arab family to settle in an apartment and become employed as soon as possible. It will take a while for the family to be self-sufficient. We would like to raise one year’s worth of finances for rent, food, and basic necessities.
  • Volunteer - We need people to help with transportation to appointments, with filling out forms, opening a bank account, teaching ESOL (no previous experience required; we will supply all educational materials), etc.  The Arab family is presently living in Silver Spring.

Financial Needs

We expect that $2500/month will cover rent, food, and basic needs; we want to be prepared to cover 12 months which means we need to raise $30,000. The family will begin to incrementally support themselves over time.  We have raised $10,000 so far, and we are reaching out into the community to churches, friends, neighbors, and businesses to raise the remaining $20,000.

Can your family, church, business or organization consider supporting this family for...

... one month?  $2,500     ... two weeks?  $1,250     ... one week?  $625

Will you consider supporting this family for...

... one meal?  $25                        ... groceries for a day?  $40

... rent for one day?  $65            ... rent for one week?  $455
